"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Up The Workers!

Hollande is the new French President so it's adieu and don't let the door hit you on the way out to Le Petit Bonaparte and the fragrant Carla. The Greek Parliament will mainly comprise Maoists, Trotskyists, Revolutionaries and Anti-Capitalists and to round off the evening's entertainment, Merkel's coalition Party lost in the Schleswig-Holstein by-election.

Oh, how I laughed!  Hello Barroso, hello van Rompuy - how do you feel now?  You're probably the same pea-green colour as Balls and Miliband as they look forward to the prospect of seeing their economic policies implemented across Europe.

I doubt Osborne is feeling so chipper tonight either.  He should never have propped up the failing eurozone in the way he did; he should have saved the money and invested it here, for the benefit of this country, so we wouldn't be so badly affected by the coming crash.

  1. The Greeks appear to be heading for a parliament which comprises 60% anti-bailout bods:

I couldn't care less if Pol Pot ruled Greece or France the result were the death of the Euro and EU. :)

    1. I think that's what most of us are hoping for Fausty - it will be so tough but, ultimately, a price worth paying to get us out of their straitjacket. The EU won't go without a fight though.

  2. I was uncommonly chuffed to read that Sokrazy was chucked out. His successor will empty France of high earners with his insane 75% tax rate, so they will be on the ropes soon.

If the Greeks vote in the antis, that will make my day completely. A poor France* and an independent Greece.

*I am hoping that a poor France would also ditch the mightily expensive EU.

    Happy days.

(The icing on the cake would be to get the German powerhouse jammed with eurosceptics).

I am praying like a demented monk.

    CR.

    1. I think we've all got our fingers crossed, Cap'n. The Germans are waking up as well but I do feel so sorry for the Greeks though - it's definitely popcorn time.

    1. They are - and there was another election today, in Serbia, but I haven't checked those results yet. Hang on...

What a long link! That's the latest I could find - results not expected until later this evening but whoever gets in, it looks like they'll be pro-EU, of course.

  4. Worse thing that can happen now is far left parties getting in power in Europe. They won't like the Fiscal Treaty ruling that they will only be allowed a 3% deficit... after all, the one thing real lefties like doing is spend, spend, spend... and as the Capt says, the rich, hard working French will leave France and the hapless and downright lazy will be assured of a good benefit policy in the offing. That means they'll be queuing at Dover to get to Calais!!

    1. :) Wouldn't that be something! If only IDS cd get our welfare system sorted out it could be goodbye to those who make a deliberate choice to live a feckless, state-dependent lifestyle and hello to tax-paying Frenchies. Sounds like Dreamland to me. It's going to be an interesting year.

IDS won't ever manage to do that because to be brutally frank the man is a total MORON and THICK beyond belief. He has NO IDEA of why the benefits bill is so high. One major reason why it is because thick cretins like him have run our economy into the ground so that there are simply not enough jobs to go around. Really, the man should just be told to lie in a room and keep-on taking the tablets because of the utter crap he spouts. Only a tiny minority (ie about 1%) deliberatly choose to be on benefits for long periods but thick, bigoted Tories wouldn't understand this simple point.
